Visiting Machu Picchu - A guide to Machu Picchu, Peru

The greatest symbol and Vestige essential of the Inca civilization, his name means "Old Mountain" in Quechua. Named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu is now the # 1 tourist attraction in Peru!

Transportation between Cusco and Aguas Calientes

voyage perou - hiram bingham cusco aguas calientes

We can not get to Aguas Calientes (mandatory stop before Machu Picchu) treks on foot via (the Inca Trail) or train, it is possible to book here.
You must arrive at the station 30 minutes before departure with 2 copies of electronic tickets (e-tickets), one for recording and one for boarding the train ... and do not forget your passport!

Trains  Info: Categories
The trip takes 3 hours. There are three different categories depending on the train ... the budget and comfort level, of course!
Note that departures from Cusco are from the Poroy station, located 20 minutes from the center of the city.

* The Hiram Bingham (starting only from Cusco): from the prestigious company Orient Express is the most luxurious train in Peru. Chic decor style Pullman cars of the 20s and fully glazed rear car for incredible panoramic views. Just thinking about it, I imagine Agatha Christie wrote admiring the scenery. The ticket includes not only the round trip from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, but also a welcome drink, brunch and dinner on board, show folk, VIP buses climb to Machu Picchu guide included on the site for each group 14 people and ... tea time at the famous Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge to enjoy the fantastic view of Machu Picchu!

* Vistadome (Cusco or Ollantaytambo from): it's like a 1st class without being luxurious. The train offers great comfort and above large windows on the walls and ceiling to admire the scenery (and take pictures). Soft drinks, live music and snacks included onboard.

* Shipping (from Cusco or Ollantaytambo) formerly known backpacker, I find it funny that they found a name more "chic". Basically, it is the least expensive category. There is still much comfortable. For our part, we got to meet a group of retired Belgian more than friendly (I've never met Belgians who were not, I begin to think that it does not exist) and n 'has not lost track of time! This may be the wine they offered us ...

Tickets for Machu Picchu

Ideally, you should buy your tickets in advance because the government has restricted access to the site to 2,500 people a day and it would be a shame to be out of place!

Machu Picchu Info: where to buy tickets?
The best is online on the official website that has been little (it was time anyway!) Or trying to Cusco, Machu Picchu at the Centro Cultural (Instituto Nacional de Cultura) at: 238 Avenida de la Cultura, against by the wait can be long! And no, for those wondering, we can not buy tickets for Machu Picchu at the very entrance!

Warning: these are the only two ways to buy itself, unless to do business with an agency. Sometimes people try to sell fake tickets on the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, do not be fooled!
